Danny Sullivan at AIM Conference 2014 |
"Google is the neighbor that you can't ignore. Google is holding the 60% market share of all searches. It is a primary search habit for any type of search. It is very unlikely for any competitor to make Google seated back. Google is like smoking a cigarette, but it doesn't kill you. New trends like native advertising really muddy the water when it comes to how Google "scores" links from other sites. The Panda (one of the Google Algorithm) is created to refrain search from the low quality content from the rankings. Google's goal is to work for the "Searchers", not for the "publishers". Google is punishing the bad links instead of just discounting the credits of those backlinks. In September 2013 , The Google algorithm was entirely built again with the Hummingbird. The Hummingbird (Google's search algo.) understands the entities. The only goal of the Google is to improve the search for the consumers." Danny revealed a few facts on the Google search algorithm.
Then Danny move towards a bit advanced topic of the Structured Markup, "The structured markup has to happen. Mainly, it's used for the locations, but more will come. It provides the mechanism to provide more specifics about your website. Any webmaster should use the structured markup to improve the Google entity search." He added, "Google+ Local has huge impact on personalized results. You rank better if "friends" with people. Google plus might go away, but the Google local listing will remain crucial. When it comes to local search it pulls from Google+ not the search. Claim your listing before someone else does!"
Danny headed on the topic of Authorship. He gave some very useful advice about using the authorship on pages with real authors to establish the Authority. Do not fake it. Authorship online needs to link back to real person and Google profile to establish authority. He added some more insight on design. He implied that "Websites should load well on Smartphones. The issues are likely landing page related. Google doesn't care if a website is mobile vs responsive. All they care is it works well for the Smartphone which means the load time of a website is crucial. People search differently on mobile vs. desktop or laptop. Mobile is the best for the folks who want to or needs purchase now! What does your mobile visitor really want? Know that, and deliver it."
Then Danny gets into more advanced topic of wearable. He exclaimed, "Are your sites WEARABLE...eyes, wrist...they better be!! Wearable may be the future of search so pull of your socks for that."
In the end segment Danny revealed those facts which often get debunked by the Matt, Web Spam team head of the Google, "Google wants to reward trustworthy brands ... big or small. Google will keep rewarding brands. So Make your brand essential to Google"
Danny concluded his session with these insights, "Panda, Penguin & Hummingbird aren't the Google conspiracy. The real conspiracy is the ADS! Free space is diminishing everywhere… Be prepared to Pay to Play!"
The Conclusion
If we epitomize the session of the Danny on Google then we can say that Searches were based on letters, patterns not the actual word, thing, but now it is entity driven and getting more intelligent. Understand how people are searching information. Adapt to that information and adjust accordingly. Take advantage of the advanced search marketing methodology including Local Listing, Authorship, responsive design, click to call, etc. Google rewards brands so make yourself irresistible BRAND for Google. Adopt the advanced technology at an early stage like wearables. Be ready to pay to play as Free space is diminishing everywhere."
