Does Google Issue Certificates? Can Anyone Be Google Partner?

I have heard many time prospects or my social network connections asks me this question or look suspiciously to the people who are claiming to have such certification or partnership. This inspired me to write this Blog. This blog will answer their queries and it will also be helpful to the aspirant marketers.

The answer is, "YES". Not only, Google, but also Bing, Hubspot and other known names in the Online marketing industry provides such certification. This certification usually has a validation date on it due to ever-changing nature of the marketing and internet field.

Why Google (or other such organization) Gives Such Certification?
I haven't approached Google to answer this, but as per my knowledge and experience, I'm trying to answer this question :) . As we all know, Google is fighting against "Spam" and "Poor Online Marketing Practices". Such courses provide in-depth knowledge of the ethical and result oriented marketing standards and practices. This helps Google to educate marketers with the guidelines and standard practices to be followed. At some extent, it also helps in getting other core information of people which helps search engines in other ways.

It also helps people to recognize the qualified individuals who can work for them as per the set standards.

Some organizations (including Google in the past) also bag some money from such courses. It still helps indirectly to add revenue to the organizations.

How To Get Google [or other Related] Certification?
Google and other related organization like Bing, Hubspot provides different courses or material to the aspiring marketers. These materials can be PDF ebook or series of video lectures which provide in-depth knowledge of chosen subject. Once the learner feels, he has acquire enough knowledge, he can give an evaluation test which is a time bound exam. The exam will test the knowledge of the learner by both theoretical and a few practical scenario based questions. If a learner achieves the set milestone of score, the organization issue an online certificate to him/her.

Usually, such certifications are valid to specified time period, then one must need to give exam again to regain the certification.

How to Be Google Partner?
There are a few requirements to be "Google Certified Partner" which are listed below:
  • Google Partner's profile creation for company
  • Google certified individual  [Pass minimum 2 exams out of 3]
  • Meet minimum spending requirement which is at least $10,000 USD (or local currency equivalent) in total AdWords spend over the last 90 calendar days.
Can Anyone Cheat in The Exam?
The chances of cheating in such exams are denied in 99.99% cases. These exams are time based, so one don't get much time to surf around or explore the material to find the answers. Also, the questions are logical, so all question don't have answer on net. It can be only acquire by thorough subject knowledge.

We can't ignore the 0.01% ratio of possible cheating. Sometimes, students give exams in a group or ask someone to give exam in behalf of them. So there can be cases of dummy student achieves certification for someone else. This is possible because there is no verification policy, but this is a very rare scenario.Again it's quite difficult because the passing score usually set to very high and the time constraint exam policy.

Which Types of Certificates are Available?
There are many organizations providing various certifications. Each has their own set rules, passing score, etc. A few courses are offered only once in limited time period, but there are a few courses which are open to all for free for 365 days a year. Below is a list and link of a few well-known certification programs. By exploring the links, you will find more related details, like course material, passing marks, validity, etc.
Hope this information has added some knowledge in your knowledge base. You can reach me anytime, if you need more information on anything.

What A Successful Marketer Do?

It can be a trivial or a million dollar question, depends on the person. For example, some of you have an instant answer, "A marketer market or sell the things." Well, that can be a generic answer, but to be a "Successful Marketer" one has to do much more specific things than marketing or selling the stuff. Marketing is not as easy as people assume, it's a logical and quite challenging job. A marketer needs to follow a step by step process to be a successful marketer. In today's Blog, I will try to cover the top 10 practices in stepwise manner which each marketer needs to practice to become a "Successful Marketer".

Understand the Business
This must be the first step of anyone who wants to be part of the marketing industry. You have to be quick learner and understand the organization or company you are going to work with/for. You have to understand the rules, policy and standards which can help you to take marketing decisions without any conflicts in the future. As part of the business knowledge acquisition, you have to understand the products/solutions/services of the company. You have to grasp the thorough details of each product and solution you are going to sell. It will help you to get the confidence to deal the real market more effectively.

Understand the Business Goal
You have to do in-depth research to understand and clearly define the goals of the company, both, long term and short term. The quote a marketer needs to keep in mind is "Blind marketing, without any clear goal will reach nowhere."

Understand the Industry and Competition
Once you have a clear idea of the company, its products and the goals to be achieved, this is the time to carry out a thorough research to understand the targeted industry and the competition. To conquer the market, you have to understand the industry trends and possible future changes. You also have to spot the strength and weak points of the competitors. Here a quote to keep in mind is "Never underestimate your competitors".

Understand the Persona
The next step is to understand the persona of your market. Persona is an assumed character with all the possible characteristics of the targeted audience. One business can have more than one persona and you have to get the detailed characteristic to define a specific persona.

Define the Priorities
After the research phase and defining the goals and business related entities, you have to define the priority. It's obvious to have more than one goal for any business. You have to give priority to each goal. You can also classify goals in micro and major goals. You have to give priority to the persona whom to target first. You can't aim all the directions at the same moment. You have to be clear which milestone to achieve first.

Outline a specific Marketing Plan
After defining the clear priority, you can create a specific marketing plan. You can create a phase-wise marketing plan as per the set priorities. Make sure you keep all the gathered data and processed information in your mind during marketing plan creation. Use your experience, but don't stick to it. Each market needs a different strategy. You can't use the same marketing plan everywhere. You should use your experience to create an effective plan, not to impose it. You can also take help of the industry experts from direct or indirect resources.

Be a calm listener
Many times you might have seen people speaking so much, sometimes exaggerating, about their products/services. This is traditional sales practice. A good marketer is always a good listener. As a good marketer, you have to listen to everyone, yes everyone. You have to listen to your prospects/clients, your boss, your colleagues and many other entities. Sometimes, you will get stupid, agitating or provoking suggestions, but you must listen carefully by keeping your mind open. The reason is sometimes, you might get excellent ideas or suggestions directly or indirectly. All people giving their suggestions are after all belongs to the audience area. Their suggestions will be helpful sooner or later. Even the worst suggestion will bring you to an idea of what you should never do. :) So be a calm listener.

Go with the experience and instinct
As I said earlier, listen to everyone, but do what is right for you to achieve your business goals. You should use both your experience and instinct to take the right marketing decisions. Do not follow anyone blindly, not even your own self or your own experience. Market and audience changes dynamically and you have to change your marketing practices accordingly.

Accept the Mistakes & Learn from it
Like any other field, it is possible that your marketing plan proves to be a disastrous thing. The key take away here is to don't justify the things. You must understand and gracefully accept your mistakes. Not only, accepting, but you also have to understand the factors which lead you to such failures and make sure you don't repeat the mistakes. You must take lessons from your mistakes which can help you to make better marketer. The thing to keep in mind is "Making mistake is not wrong, but repeating the mistake and not taking lessons from the mistake is wrong."

Never Stop Learning
As a marketer, you can't be an expert ever. You have to be a student of the field. You have to learn from each entity and each person around you. Even the worst things can teach you the best marketing strategies. Never think that you have reached the summit of the marketing industry, but keep your eyes, ears and mind open to learn new things from your's and others' experiences. Be a good reader and learner!

So these were top ten things, every marketer should keep in mind and follow at its best. Each successful marketer practice these process in his each marketing project. Hope this helps you in one way or other.

International SEO: Technical details Deep Dive 2

Last week I explained about International SEO and related terminologies. If you missed that article, read it from here: http://digital-marketing-ashvyasseo.blogspot.com/2014/11/international-seo-multilingual-Multiregional-SEO-Tips.html. This blog post is second part of the International or multinational SEO. In this article, I will share some technical details which shows how to implement and successfully run a multinational SEO campaign. Let's explore step by step guide.

How To Practice Multinational/International SEO?
There are different ways to practice multinational SEO. It starts with selecting the right alternative of the URL aka domain. There are three options which are explained below with small tips to make decision easier.

1. CCTLD
Buy country specific domain like example.de. This is suggested only when
  • You want to target a few regions only now as well as in future.
  • You have enough resources to work on specific country wise domain. As CCTLD will completely new domain, you have to put extra efforts to get the authority for that domain.
  • Some regions has its rules to get cctld, so you have to pass those standards to get the rules.
2. Subdomain with gTLd
Use your current domain and add subdomain for each targeted location. For ex: de.example.com.
You can set targeted geographical area from Google webmasters easily. The benefits of using it will be:
  • Easy to setup
  • Your authority of the current site will be passed to it and vice verse
3. Subdirectory with gTLD
Use your current website and add subdirectory in it, .i.e., example.com/de.
You can set the geo-target from the Google webmaster tool. It has the same benefits as a subdomain.

4. URL Parameters
Use url parameter for each targeted location, i.e., example.com/?location=france
This is not recommended at all from SEO point of view. Why? The important reasons are
  • You won't be able to set the geotarget from GWT
  • Google [most search engines] are not good in dealing with URL with parameters
If you ask me, I would suggest to go with either subdomain or subdirectory with gTLD. Further, narrowing down, subdirectories are best with some of the SEO factors + it's easy to handle. Still, there are no clear evidences of benefits of subdirectories over subdomains, many SEO experts suggest using subdirectories based on their experience and so do I.

International, Multinational SEO

Once you have decided the URL, then you can use different methods to serve the language/region specific users. The possible options are as below:
1. HTTP redirection
2. Javascript enabled redirection

I suggest to use http redirection as again search engines are not so good in dealing with javascript. Though it has started improving and handling javascript, still there can be some problems.

Once the redirection portion is done you have to specify the region specific landing pages. How to handle it? It's explained in brief below:

1. Rel="Alternate" Hreflang Annotation
In google, rel="alternate" hreflang="x" annotation is used to specify which page is served to which geographical location. This is recommended when you have a different version of the same content which is either translated or adjusted to serve the different regions. There are three ways to implement this markup:

HTML Link element in head section
In the head section of example.com add a link element pointing to the french version of a webpage which is example.com/de
Code: <link rel="alternate" hreflang="de" href="https://example.com/de" />

HTTP Header
This option is useful when you are publishing non-HTML files, i.e., PDF. You can use HTTP header to indicate the French version of a URL.
Code: Link: <https://example.com/de>; rel="alternate"; hreflang="de"

Sitemap
I find it quite easy and less chances of any issues. You can submit language version instead of any markup.

One thing to keep in mind that there are predefined hreflang values for languages and regions. So use the right value only. Beware of any silly mistake.

2. X-Default Hreflang Markup
It's important to keep in mind that, you won't be able to create different pages for each and every region or language in this world. What if a visitor come to your website for whom you haven't created any specific landing page. In such case, you have to create a general landing page and redirect the user there. For this purpose use xDefault hreflang attribute.
Code: <link rel="alternate" href="https://example.com/" hreflang="x-default" />

If you are using different region specific URLs, then you will have cluster of code as below:

<link rel="alternate" href="https://example.com/de" hreflang="de" />
<link rel="alternate" href="https://example.com/" hreflang="x-default" />

Once the code is setup, you can create a separate account for each version of the site serving a predefined audience in both, GWT and GA. It will help you to monitor your efforts and fine tune it.

Hope this Blog added some value to your knowledge-base.

International SEO: Multilingual and Multiregional Deep Dive Part 1

International SEO which is also known as multinational or global SEO is a part of an advanced SEO tactics. If you got an opportunity to run a multinational SEO campaign, you must be one of the few lucky SEOs. If not, then there is still an opportunity to come. What exactly a multinational SEO is? Let's explore in today's article.

What is International/Multinational SEO?
International aka multinational SEO has two parts. Multilingual and Multiregional. Both are not only different, but also overlap each other. When a website expands the territories and start targeting people of specific region or language, at that time SEO professionals use these international SEO strategies. It is one of the most complex SEO practices. The reason is, you have to handle all the different SEO campaigns and related activities without messing it.

What is Multilingual and Multiregional SEO?
You might get an idea from the name itself. Multilingual SEO is when you customize your website in different languages to serve people speaking those specific languages. Multiregional SEO is a customized SEO strategy used to serve a different geographical area with region specific SEO strategies.

International, Multinational SEO

Key Benefits of International/Multinational SEO:
  • Expand the horizons of your business
  • You can reach a potential audience which are not a native English speaker
  • Go beyond your competitor
  • Diversified visitors & Improved conversion rates
  • Create a global Brand [My personal favourite :)]

Challenges in International/Multinational SEO
International SEO has various challenges including:
  • Local SEO tactics changes frequently. As you are targeting different regions, you have to be updated with such updates and change your strategies accordingly.
  • Targeting only Google won't work. When you are doing region/language based SEO, you have to target local search engines along with Google. For example, in Russia, you have to target Yandex. You have to customize your SEO tactics based on target region's popular search engine.
  • You have to understand the traits of market, culture and buying behaviour of the local people of each location you want to target.
  • You might need a local marketing person. In some geographical regions, still people believes in one to one meeting rather than placing online orders. For such cases, you must have a resource to satisfy this requirement.

A Few Important Tips to make your International/Multinational SEO Campaign successful
  • Perform thorough linguistic research and understand the region, culture, local competition and other factors.
  • Understand the localized market and its specific terms. In SEO language, get a list of region specific "keywords".
  • Write a region specific page with usage of the selected keywords. Don't just translate the pages into regional languages. It won't give as much benefit as expected. It's strongly recommended to write specific pages in the targeted languages using the localized voice and standards.
  • Optimize SEO attributes specifically for the localized market.
  • Understand the local popular search engines and optimize the site according to that search engines. You can also amalgamate standard SEO practices for major and local search engines, but be very careful.
I hope this article has given you a brief idea of multinational aka international SEO. In the next Blog, I will share some technical details to show how one can implement a multinational SEO campaign in a website.

Are You Making Any Mistake In Your Marketing Strategy?

Probably a million dollar question in today's time "Is your marketing strategy well aligned with the current trend?" or "Are you making any mistake in your marketing strategy?" Let's delve this topic in this Blog.

What is "Marketing"?
To run your business successfully, the first thing you need to understand is to understand the "Actual meaning of marketing". In a simple language, "marketing is the strategized way to reach your targeted audience as and when they are looking for you [your services/ products] and convert them into a lead by explaining how you [your services/products] can make their life better. Once lead is made, the journey continued to maintain and delight your clients."

How marketing was practised?
Previously, marketers were taking help of a few activities, including:
  • Print media ads
  • Cold calling
  • Door knocking
  • Email marketing
  • Large network

These activities were quite good in 90s and before when people used to entertain such calls, emails and sales people. But, with the revolution in the technology, people changed their approach. They start losing interest in such sales approaches and started finding them irritating, disturbing and interfering. The audience start looking, comparing and reviewing things on the internet. The buying habits are getting changed and so does the marketing activities. It's the time to switch, or start the online marketing practices.

I'm not saying that traditional marketing activities are completely dead, but at certain extent it has lost its original impact. There might be a few industries where people are still getting good business from these activities. But the question is till when?

The world is moving towards the online media and digitization. Your audience is spending majority of their time on search engines, social media, e-commerce sites and similar places. So, don't you think you should target those people, too. Even if, you are getting a great deal of business from the traditional activities, don't you think you should target the other branch of people with various online and digital marketing activities.

If you think why? I suggest to read the failure story of Kodak. It's difficult to cover that story here so giving the reference link of the story http://www.forbes.com/sites/chunkamui/2012/01/18/how-kodak-failed/

No matter how good position you are holding, you have to change with the trend. If you think old practises give you good results, do work on it, but, start making pace with the world by taking online marketing services. Assign a portion of budget to it and don't wait till the time to get completely failed and then starting from a zero.

If you have doubts or finding it risky then allot a fraction of marketing budgets to online marketing. Check the result and then take the next step. This is the right time to think again for the upcoming quarters of this financial year. Are you on right page or not? Don't you want to open the new doors for getting more clients? Don't you want to reach those people spending most of their time on the online world? Think wisely, think now.

If you have any query, you can reach me by commenting on the Blog.

SEO Tips To Market eBook on Amazon

Amazon is one of the big search engines in the world of ecommerce. Somewhere, it dominates the market when we talk about ebook selling. According to Forrester research findings, more than 30% of product search begins at Amazon from mid 2012 which is quite less compared to Google, only 13%. In today's post, I will share a few easy to follow tips to get your ebook rankings up in the Amazon. These tips you can use in other ebook selling website as well.

If you are willing to sell your ebook on more than one online store then the most important thing is, you should get your own publisher account on ebook store to get the most benefits of the platform. If possible, don't use the third party aggregators or distributors as it can reduce your meta date to the lowest common denominator of each store.

SEO tips for ebook selling on Amazon
Amazon has very good influence in ebook store market. Here are a few areas where I suggest you to focus and be precise to get your rankings up in the Amazon store.

Title & Subtitle
Title is the most important thing. Properly fill this field with the name of the book. Subtitle is a new field for KDP. You can add information to it, if applicable. Be precise, as title and subtitle has combined character limit of 200 characters.

Description
Use keyword rich description to get the best rankings. I would also suggest to use html formatting to make your description appealing to the reader. You can use heading, subheading, bold, italic to format your description.

Series Title
If your book has legitimate series then don't forget to mention it. As it's one of the ranking factors in Amazon.

Publisher Name
Never forget to add the publisher name. It adds credibility to the ebook and also build a brand for the author. It also helps to get rankings in search by author name.

Name of Contributor(s)
If anyone contributed in completing the book then this is the place to give credit. It will opens a door for search by that author name.

Category
This is one of the main reasons to use KDP instead of third party distributors. Amazon allows to give two categories for your ebook. Use both and open another door of high ranking in Amazon search. It will also make you more fit for general search rankings.

Keywords
Unlike Google, Amazon allows to use keywords and use it as ranking factors. You can use seven comma separated keywords., So take complete benefit of it.

Practice above mentioned tips and opens the doors of high rankings in Amazon for general and specific search. Hope this helps.

Will Responsive Website Be One of The Ranking Factor?

Recently, the SEO market is buzzing with a news or rumor that the responsive website will be a ranking factor in Google SERP. Let's explore the facts on this topic.

At last SMX, Pierre Far, Representative of Google made a couple of announcements. One of them was to provide good user experience to the mobile visitors. He gave a vague statement on this topic. Most of the SEO geeks took it in a way that "In the nearer future responsive website will be compulsory". The fact is little different than this.

As per the announcement of Pierre, he was encouraging webmasters to give better user experience to the mobile users. One of the best ways to do so is making a responsive website. The other option which was completely overlooked by most of the webmasters is to make a mobile version of a website for the mobile users. It's an old day practice, but still effective in some cases. You should choose any one option to improve user experience.

Let's understand with an example. If you have a hotel website, people on mobile site must be looking for your address. At the same time, people on a laptop or PC must be looking for some good offers, available coupon codes or tariff comparison. In this case, both types of users have completely different needs. So the best option is to create a mobile version of the website with targeted design and content. Let's take another scenario, you are an online marketing services provider. Anyone coming to your website must be looking for the internet marketing related services or suggestions. So, both mobile and desktop users are looking for the almost same thing in 99% cases. In such case, the best solution is to create a responsive website.

What can be the expected changes in the Google Algo in nearer future?
The expected changes can be user might implement mobile user experience as a ranking factor. The reason is Google's one of the agendas is to provide better user experience. As more and more people are moving towards mobile devices and Smartphones for search, Google will surely implement it into the ranking factors.

In fact, Google has already given an indirect hint of this update in nearer future by the stated vague announcement. There are also a few hints like the added guidelines for Smartphone websites. GWT also shows mobile usability report.

As per the flame in the SEO world, I would suggest to take a step to make your website mobile user friendly. You can make it either responsive or mobile version to reach this goal. Don't wait for Google's enforcement, start providing a good experience to your visitors.

Google Updates: Gmail Inbox in Search Result, WebMasters Guideline Changed

Google is in mood of updates or makeover I guess. In the past few weeks, so many small and big updates it has announced, including, Panda, Pirates, Penguin. Last week, Google announced two more updates including Gmail Inbox in web search, webmaster's guideline changed.

Gmail Inbox Result in Web Search
Don't get confused or panic with the heading :) People won't see your private messages, Google takes care of security concerns as before. According to this update, if you are logged in to your account then you can access your all mails without opening gmail mail-client. A user can access all gmail tabs, including, Inbox, social and promotion directly from the Google web search or Google now. As per the TheAndroidSoul, users can search with any of the below queries to access their emails.
  • gmail inbox
  • my inbox
  • show inbox
  • get inbox
  • inbox by gmail
  • inbox from gmail

This update seems to be rolling out as a few users are not getting the results as mentioned. You can try in your Android. ;)

Another update is an update in the Google Webmaster Policy. If you are a webmaster, you must understand how serious it is....!! This update was announced by Webmaster Trends Analyst of Google, namely, Pierre Far. An official blog has been published on the same subject on googlewebmaster blog, too. According to this update, now Googlebot is modernized. So it will crawl websites as modern browsers. [People who are not aware of it, Google was crawling websites as text browser like Lynx before]. With the technology, Google has changed its bot as well. So the updated guideline in brief is, DO NOT BLOCK GOOGLEBOT FROM CRWALING IMAGES, CSS & JAVASCRIPT. The reason behind this is, Googlebot needs to crawl and index all images, CSS and JavaScript for optimal rendering and indexing of webpages. Google's webmaster has written the main point in bold as below:
Disallowing crawling of Javascript or CSS files in your site’s robots.txt directly harms how well our algorithms render and index your content and can result in suboptimal rankings.
It means, it can harm your search rankings and results directly. You must have understood the seriousness of the update. So take instant action. You can use GWT's Fetch and render tool to check how your website will be viewed by Googlebot. Previously, Google suggested to use the Lynx browser to check the same.

There is one more update deemed to be coming, will write about it in upcoming Blog. So stay tuned.

Hope this Blog added some value to your knowledge-base. :)

Google Launched Penguin and Pirate

As Google announced, it has released Penguin 3 update in Google. On 17th Oct, 2014 Penguin 3 was rolled out. Many webmasters has seen major updown in the rankings. As per the sources, it has affected 1% of English search query. Some even got positive result because they were penalize in last Penguin and finally recovered their site. Those who are not aware of this term, Penguin algo is a spam fighter algo of Google which penalize websites with low quality backlinks. Point to be consider is that it's just a refresh of existing algorithm and not a full change.

Another update was "Pirate Update". After almost two years, Google has updated this algorithm. So it's a good news for those who got hit by this algorithm last time. This algorithm is to fight against Piracy. Basically it's to fight movie and album piracy, so not to get confused with other kind of websites.

Google Pirate algorithm is a filter which review each website and penalize those website which violates it's rules. The website cannot recover until the next algo update. According to this, if any website had penalized at launch of this algo then now they got chance to recover :)

To fight with the Piracy, Google has also started to showing ad and planning to show knowledge base kind of concept in search result. Let's get ready for the new changes.

SEO News: Panda Is Running, Penguin is Coming

On 25th Sep, 2014 Pierre Far, representative of Google announced on his Google+ page that they have launched a slow roll out of the Panda Algorithm- algo to fight low quality content. This algorithm has woven the Webmatsres' feedback which helped to discover a few more signals of low quality content. Though this is the 27th Google Panda update after it launched first time, but Google itself called Panda 4.0 to its last update. So SEO people gave the name "Panda 4.1" to this update.

Though there isn't any official announcement, the algorithm has almost completed its roll out. It has affected 3-5% search queries depending on the region. This update is a boon for them who had a Panda hit in the last update. So if you are one of them and had made the necessary changes, you will get your rankings back. At the same time, sites with thin or duplicate content got penalty. Below is the screenshot of top 10 winners and losers published by searchmetrics.

Google Panda 4.1 Top 10 Winners List
Google Panda 4.1 Top 10 Winners List
Google Panda 4.1 Top 10 Losers List
Google Panda 4.1 Top 10 Losers List
If you will check the list closely, you will witness an honesty of Google. Google.co.in is on the 7th rank of the loser's list and have faced significant loss due to Panda.

There is one more news from the Google's corner for the SEO industry. In Search Marketing Expo East, Gary Illyes, Google Engineer announced launch of "Google Penguin Algorithm Update" in upcoming weeks. As per his announcement, the newly developed penguin algo is going to make both users' and webmasters' life happy. Currently, it's in testing phase and if it get through the quality test, it will be launched in upcoming weeks. It can be delayed if it find any issue(s) through the testing phase. He further added, disavowing links after or before two weeks of new penguin update won't help. Although there will be frequent penguin refresh which might make recovery faster.

So brace yourself as Panda is running and Penguin is coming. Hope this article help.

Top 5 Tips To Write Awesome and Attractive Content

Tips To Improve Your Writing Skills
Recently I have been part of a tweet discussion on the topic of an effective content writing. Today in this blog will share the tips for writing attractive content based on the discussion, experts' point of view and my own experience.

The online marketing industry has changed drastically in a past decade. A quality content has become a most vital aspect of any marketing strategy. The way of crafting the content has changed.

A good piece of content is the one which is original and grammatically correct. It should have good use of voice so the targeted users can easily understand it. To make it more effective, usage of visuals can be an icing on the cake. Last but not the least, in this social era, the content should be easily sharable on social networks.

Be Original and Unique
The most important thing is to have an original idea. If you will write a content by spinning an article or by taking a topic then it won't attract much visitors. You have to come up with your own idea. The best way to get the topic is to be part of good Blogs, communities and social media. You can get topics from the discussions and comments of the people. You can find what people are interested in and write on what your targeted audience is looking for.

Write a Title Which Grab An Attention
Typically, a Title is 60-120 characters long first impression on your readers. If the title is not so appealing, people might not bother to visit or read your article. A few tips to write a standout article title are listed below:

  • Article gist must be clearly conveyed.
  • Make it exciting, for instance, use "Start Raving Made"  instead of "Crazy".
  • Arouse Curiosity.
  • Try to fit the keywords, but don't stuff it.

Maintain Quality With Easy To Understand Language
Usage of good English is one of the important factors for the quality writing, but never ever use the jargons. You might have a very good English vocab, but your article is not the place to show off your vocab. Make the language easy to understand for third person.

Promote Hard
No matter how good content you have written, if it can't go to your targeted users' sight then it's of no use. Share your contents and try to promote it as much as possible. You can also reshare the same content. Make sure you are not feeding the timelines of your connection at extent that they find it irritating and spammy.

Get Feedback
This is one of the most important, but overlooked aspect of writing a good content. The key factor of improvement is to get genuine feedback and work on it. Get feedback from your field's influenecer, readers, friends, colleagues, or third party people. This feedback will help you to write more user friendly and awesome content.

Hope this article helps in one way or another.

Why Online Marketing Is The Best Marketing Channel?

Recently I had a conversation with an online marketer which inspired me to write this Blog. The online marketer is practicing inbound marketing, but amazingly he was more in favor of offline marketing. This can be the case of many similar marketers who are still confused and don't understand the worth and power of the online marketing. This is a very broad topic to discuss on. Let's explore why online marketing is the best "Marketing" Channel in brief.

Offline marketing Vs Online Marketing
Offline marketing Vs Online Marketing
In the 90s and before that time, people had only one major marketing channel which is offline marketing. In offline marketing, people perform different activities like Telecalling, door to door selling, etc.

After the invention of Google, online stores and other such major entities, people started using online world more. Another point to consider is, people are more busy in the life race. People are struggling to maintain work life balance. In such scenario, people get irritated and frustrated when an anonymous salesman gives a call or come to the doorstep to sell something. Today's user buy something only and only when he is looking for something and he wants to buy, not because a salesperson wants to sell. Simply ask yourself, how many sales call had you attended in the past month and bought something?

Today's marketing fundamentals are changed and more focused. An effective marketing helps people to buy what they want to and delight them during their buyer's journey instead of irritating them with old fashioned marketing activities.

Today's Marketing Mantra is "Reach Right People, At Right time, At Right Place"

Another major benefit of online marketing is that it's measurable. There are so many advanced tools which helps a marketer to measure the success and failure of different marketing campaigns. The marketers can run AB testing and select what is best for their business. It might not be possible with this much accuracy in offline marketing. This aspect of inbound marketing makes it better than the offline marketing.

A few people argue that inbound marketing is too slow. I must say they are unaware of different channels like PPC, Affiliate marketing, et cetera which gives an instant result. Even if SEO is a bit slow, but it gives long lasting results and there are so many benefits of it which shouldn't get ignored.

Last and the most important thing is that calling the prospect and having personal meeting is still important. In this digital world, people still cherish emotions and personal touch. So as a marketer, you must be in touch via phone, email or personal meeting with your existing clients and prospects. You can't ignore the power of it!

Conclusion
Even if people making statements like they close deals of $$$ just by calling or having meeting or using some other offline tactics. The experience of the industry experts and evangelist as well as the concrete stats indicate that online marketing is the most effective marketing channel now-a-days because of its nature of helping a prospect instead of interrupting or irritating them and providing measures of success and failure.

The words of wisdom are "Stop interrupting & irritating people to sale your product; Reach right people at the right time and help them to buy the Best Product".

Bing Algo Update: URL SPAM Keyword Stuffing

People are more likely to keep their eyes and ears open for the algorithm updates of Google. They usually overlook the changes in other search engines. Bing has announced one of the changes which has affected considerable search queries and URLs. Let's explore it in a bit detail

Bing Algorithm Update: URL SPAM
Bing Algorithm Update: URL SPAM

On Bing Blog, Igor Rondel, the Principal Development Manager, Bing Index Quality posted a few days ago regarding the launch of a search engine algorithm update. According to that Bing has changed its algorithm to target the URLs which are stuffed with the keywords. It is somewhat similar to Google's Exact Match Keyword and Payday loan algo updates.

According to Igor, it has been launched before a few months. It has affected 3% of overall search queries. To make the update transparent, Igor also documented the types of URL on the blog which counted as spammy and got hit by this algo. The types of domains are:
  • Keyword rich hostname with multiple hosts
    Example:
    free.online.moviesticketsforsale.com
  • Domain name with repeated keywords
    Example:
     home-decore-homedecoreforsale.com
  • URL with Keyword Permutation
    Example:
     homeloan.paydayloan.com
                     houseloan.paydayloan.com
                     cheaploans.paydayloan.com
  • URL Squatting Here people try to take advantage of human tendency of misspell.
    Example:  calculatar.com [misspelling of calculator.com]

The bing algorithm update has hurt the websites with any of the above kind of keyword spam. Bing is now more committed towards the quality of search result and this algo update is one of the proofs.

To get more such insight and news, stay tuned with me.

How Local Traffic Affect Search Engine Results?

Many people might not be aware that local traffic can influence the Google rankings. How? Let's explore.

Nowadays, search engines, specifically Google started understanding the search patterns of the users. They show results according to the search pattern of a particular person or device. For example, If you are regular searcher of jewellery, then when you search for Ruby, it will show you the result of ruby gems instead of the ruby on rails - programming language. You also might have noticed that when you are searching for some restaurant or coffee shop, the local results will be on the top. Another example, when you are logged into your gmail account and searching something, you will see some of the Google+ results.

How Local Traffic influence search results
How Local Traffic influence search results

Have you ever thought why this happens?

The answer is search engines are moving towards behavioural results. It means it tries to understand the pattern and searching behaviour of the person and show most relevant results to that person which can match his likes and  purchase habits. It also shows Google+ results because somebody in your circle has liked the same and as per human tendency, we usually like things which our friends & family like or recommend.

So, This is how search result gets influenced by person's searching habits. Now, the important question how does it influence the search rankings?

Well, as I mentioned Google and other search engines started moving towards the behavioral results. So if your website gets tons of local traffic or a majority of its traffic from particularly one country or region, search engines will start assuming that your services or site is more popular amongst that particular region. This will make your site perfect fit for the audience in that region and you will get higher rankings and exposure over there.

For example: If your site gets maximum traffic from India. Then the chances are high to get top rankings while someone is searching on Google.co.in or someone is searching when he is logged in his gmail account where he has mentioned his country as India.

So this is how your local traffic can affect your search ranking.

You may try a few searches on your own and experience how Google shows biased results as per your searching pattern.

Hope this helps. If still have any query then feel free to ask queries in the comment.

Google Authorship Dead, Author Rank Will Live Long

Google's authorship had launched on 7th June, 2011. After almost three years, Google has announced, "The End" of the Authorship. In one of the Google+ post by John Muller, Google Webmaster Trends Analyst mentioned that Google's authorship was just a test. How? Why? Let's explore.

As we all know that Google continuously tries to provide the best user experience. For this purpose, it usually keeps making changes to its algorithm. With the same agenda, Google had launched the authorship markup. The core goal of Google was to provide more detailed and useful information passing to the users. Unfortunately, during the test of three long years, Google found that "Authorship" is not much useful. Thus, they announced the closure of this markup tag. The most important thing to note is that people don't need to remove this markup tag as it won't harm your website. Google will simply ignore the code.

Google Authorship Dead
The End of Google Authorship

What does "Google Authorship is Dead" Mean?
  • According to the announcement of John, Google will no longer using the data of the author markup at all.
  • Google will completely ignore it.
  • Google won't show any author related data in search result.
  • Google will also stop the test tool to check the authorship.
Is all the hard work made by Bloggers, Webmasters wasted?
If you are thinking that your hard work is gone, then I would like to shed a light of positivity :). Though Google won't use "Authorship", it is still using the "Author Rank" and will use it in future as well. So if you are a good writer or blogger then, you may still get the benefits of "AuthorRank".

What is Author Rank?
If you are not aware with the concept of the author-rank then brief is here. Google gives higher rankings to the articles written by the authors who are deemed authenticated. It means though your name, image or byline won't be available in search results, your articles will rank higher. So keep on writing good stuff and be an authenticated writer.

Hope this article helps. Leave your concerns, feedbacks in the comment section.

Google's update announcement for Adwords and Search Engines

I thought as Matt is on a long holiday, there will be a relaxing time slot for the SEO people who are working hard to get rankings. [P.S. A few like me give more emphasis on Branding and visitor experience. Though rankings of targeted keywords are important obviously, but if you concentrate more on creating a known "Brand" and good user experience, algo updates won't bother you more. :P] Coming back to the topic, Google has spoiled the mood of the holidays of SEOs and this time also of PPC executives. There are a few announcements of upcoming updates. I'm sharing in brief for your reference.

Future Google Updates
Future Google Updates

Google Will Launch Penguin 3
In the recent webmaster's hangout, John announced that webmaster's can expect the Google Penguin 3 update in nearer future. If you don't know about "Google Penguin" then visit: http://digital-marketing-ashvyasseo.blogspot.in/2013/10/google-news-penguin-algo-updated.html

Google AdWords Will Remove "Close Variants" Deselection Option
Currently Google Adwords gives an option to keep or ignore the close variants of the keywords. The close variants mean the plurals, misspellings and other close variants of a targeted keyword.Google has announced that in late Sep, this option will be removed. It means PPC executives won't be able to target exact match keywords without any spelling mistakes or plurals. As always, Google just imposed the usage of close variants. It means you have to pay for the keywords which you might not want to target. Hmm Google sound to be in mood of increasing its revenue.

Google Will Make HTTPs A Ranking Signal
Though this is not upcoming change, it has already been launched. The thing to consider is, it is not a major ranking signal at the moment. It has impacted less that 1% of search queries. In nearer future, it will be one of the important ranking signals. So once again, Google imposed you to get Https URL, no matter you require it or not. As many websites on the web are just information passing which don't require encryption. The amazing thing to notice here is that this announcement has been made after a few weeks of Google's cheap hosting service launch. Google has never made such announcements publicly. It seems like Google is getting into business damn seriously. :D

To epitomize the announcement, I would say there are going to be some changes in nearer future which will impose you to spend more. It will also increase the "Google's Revenues" :D

As people in SEO industry knows that Matt Cutts is on holiday. Everybody might not expect any algo update or refresh in Google. The paradox is Google has launched a new algo update on Jul 24, 2014. The algo is named as "Pigeon" by Search Engine Land in the absence of any official name announcement from Google. So A pigeon is flying in the Google. :) The algo is rolled out in US only for now. It might roll out in other regions in nearer future. The percentage of impacted queries have not been revealed yet.

The local search ranking signals include features like knowledge graph, synonyms, spelling corrections, etc." Google also revealed to SearchEngineLand that "new algorithm will improve their local ranking and distance parameters."

Bounce Rate – A Considerable SEO Factor

SEO Facts related to Bounce Rate
Today I am going to discuss one of the basic factors of SEO. The "Bounce Rate".

What is Bounce Rate?
Bounce rate is a measure which shows the percentage of visitors who leave website by visiting single page. More specifically, visitor bounces back from the website from a single page and doesn't navigate through the website.

Why Does it matter to take care of bounce rate?
The bounce rate is one of the 200+ factors Google [and other search engines] consider in SERP [Search Engine Results Page]. Now, consider the scenario that your website ranks in the top result of search engine. A visitor searches for a query and visit your website. The visitor leaves your website by visiting single page, may be within a few seconds. Now, assume 95% visitors leaves your website by visiting only one page of the website. Now, think from search engine's perspective which wants to show the best match result to visitors. As your bounce rate is so high, the search engines will start assuming that your website is irrelevant to that query. As a result, search engine will start de-ranking your site/webpage for that search query.

Factors which can increase Bounce rates
  • Too many popups.
  • Irrelevant topic/title/ heading and content.
  • Irrelevant anchor text and links. For ex. giving link of cauliflower on anchor text "flower".
  • Poor/irrelevant landing page.
  • Poor design.
  • Poor menu item names.
  • Mobile unfriendly website, i.e., Unresponsive website in an era when people surf on their tabs and mobiles.
  • Developers who open website in live instead of local for minor issues [Don't do it if it isn't really required] .
  • Testing team who open website for single page testing in live [Don't do it if it isn't really required]
  • Team members like HR, BD, developer, designer, QA who opens the single page to get some information [which can be gathered from local version, database, admin and many other related sources].
  • Many More
In general, anything which is irrelevant to the user will lead user to leave your website. Bounce rate effect not only rankings, but also the conversion rate. Thus, it is advisable that you keep all the points in mind from the user's perspective when optimize your website. Try to reduce the possibilities of bounce rate and make it an engaging website for users to enjoy good rankings.

Hope this information helps! Still have confusion? Feel free to ask your questions via comments.
