Google's Top Heavy Algorithm is Live Now

Google's Spam team head Matts Cutt has announced on social media site that they have refreshed the Google's top heavy algorithm. The algo was refreshed on 6th Feb, 2014 and it is live now and has been affecting the sites worldwide. This is the 2nd refreshment of this algo after it has been launched on 19th Jan, 2012 which affected 1% search queries. Top Heavy algo was refreshed again on 9th Oct, 2012 which had affected 0.7% of search queries. Now, third time it has been refreshed. He result of its impact is not available yet, but I think there must be very less number of sites which get affected by this.

Google has been very strict to maintain quality of the search result and thus usually either launch or refresh ranking algorithms. These updates enforces webmasters to take proper prevention for maintaining the quality if they want to be in the Google index.

Top Heavy Algorith of Google

What is Top Heavy Algorithm?
If you are unfamiliar with this term then let me bring facts to your attention in the brief. If a webpage is loaded with top page ads with minimal low quality content then it may degrade the user experience. To improve the user experience and quality of content Google started penalizing the webpages or sites with lots of top page ads which can make it difficult to find actual content and make user experience worse. The algorithm launched by Google to penalize such sites is known as Top Heavy Algorithm. The algo which penalizes heavy sites with more of ads and less of the content.
